Di Metcalfe

I studied Art at Macclesfield College as a part-time mature student (2000-2004), and finally gave up a career in Cargo Insurance underwriting, to concentrate on my painting full time, at the end of 2010.

I experiment with colour combinations, perspectives and textures, hoping to create striking abstract paintings based on our lush and varied landscapes and seascapes.

I rarely start work with a plan or expectations, preferring to surround myself with photographs taken & sketches made, plus a random selection of paints, inks, & tools, then set off with an extremely open mind.

As a semi abstract landscape painter looking to create something ‘different’, I am greatly inspired by the Cornish Artist Kurt Jackson, whose view is ‘if you know how to make a painting, there is no point doing it’. Also love Grayson Perry, who says ‘Creativity is mistakes, you try, you fail, you try again’. Oh how true that has proved to be.
