Karen Pearce

I draw and paint in a variety of media, looking for beauty and trying to create order out of what I see and feel.

Through drawing I begin to understand a subject’s structure; painting the light evokes feeling, and the imaginative (joyful, exciting!) processes of abstraction help sort out the composition’s key shapes.

I am currently very interested in making pictures about rock formations; rocks set against water, earth and skies; river rocks or sea rocks – the compositional and painterly opportunities abound. The landscapes and coastlines of Ceredigion provide much of my inspiration.

Karen lives in Aberystwyth on the west coast of Wales, having moved there during her childhood in the 1960’s. She works in a studio at her home above the town.

Karen trained at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and was awarded a BA in Fine Art in 2001 and a postgraduate MA two years later. During her time as a student she won a Royal Academy Landscape Scholarship for travel. Since graduating she has worked as a tutor for the University.

She has exhibited widely in England and Wales.
