Kathy Thomson

Kathy has always loved to paint and draw. She began painting seriously from the
age of 15, copying German Expressionist paintings from a calendar her dad gave
her, before finding her own style. She trained in Art & Design and Education in the
70’s, coming to Pembrokeshire for the first time in 1978 to visit the Graham
Sutherland collection at Picton Castle. She fell in love with the stunning, ancient
landscape of the St. David’s peninsula. After a long career teaching special needs
children in Kent, and taking part in local exhibitions and South East Open Studios,
she eventually came to live in North Pembrokeshire in 2017. She works mainly in oils
in a semi-abstract style, inspired by estuary, mountain, and coastal landscapes. She
has a studio overlooking Carn Ingli in the Preseli Hills, and has been a committee
member for North Pembrokeshire Open Studios since 2018.
