Based in the UK, William Bate is a contemporary British artist known for his intuitive and expressive painting style. His work has been exhibited widely and is held in private collections.
This piece would make a compelling addition to any collection of contemporary art, particularly for those interested in modern British artists. An excellent example of original artwork with both visual impact and long-term appeal.
William studied at the St Martin’s School of Art London, gaining a Fine Art Degree. He has been painting for a number of years and during that time has developed a striking and dramatic style based on the human form.
He works largely with oil and his particular characteristic is the nebulous smoky aurora surrounding figures. Early influences include the Italian Renascence period. He uses foreshortening, shadowing and detail to portray scenes that draw out the emotion of the viewer. Other influences are early works of Gustav Klimt, his primary subject was the female body, and his works are marked by a frank eroticism—nowhere is this more apparent than in his numerous drawings.
