Alice was born in 1998 and lives on a dairy farm in Wrexham, North Wales where she has her studio. She graduated from University of Leeds in 2019 with a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art.
Alice was first inspired to paint abstract landscape whilst on an artist residency in Tuscany and since then she has honed her skill of capturing the rugged, mountainous landscape of Wales. During her Degree, Alice studied landscape and became particularly interested in the cultivation of the ‘Sublime’ in paintings of Welsh landscapes from the 18th Century to Modern Day. This permeated her studio practice and Alice has since taken particular interest in the Mountainous landscape of Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons, and the affects weather has on the landscape.
Layering multiple thin washes of paint, and using a wide palette of colours, Alice captures the mood of the landscape and creates a sense of depth and physical space. She conveys the sheer magnitude of the landscape, evoking a sense of the ‘Sublime’ and the beauty of Wales.
